World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit is traveling to the Republic of Korea with a delegation that also includes WCC director of international affairs Peter Prove, WCC director of communication Marianne Ejdersten, and WCC programme executive Rev. Dr Jin Yang Kim.

On 18 November, Tveit was invited to be the keynote speaker for the 68th General Assembly of the National Council of Churches in Korea, to be held at Jungdong Jaeil Methodist Church in Seoul with the theme “Walk the Path of the New Commandment.” Tveit will then visit with prime minister Lee Nak-yeon.

WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit commented the visit to Korea “Over the decades, WCC has been privileged to accompany and support the prophetic witness of the churches of South Korea and of the NCCK in these and other contexts.” He added “In particular, the whole history of the ‘Tozanso Process’ was one of a courageous ecumenical ministry of love for each other as Christians.”

Tveit will offer a sermon “Christ’s love move the world to reconciliation and unity” at the Seong Eun Methodist Church on 17 November, followed by a discussion on peace-building.

The WCC delegation will also participate in meetings with WCC member churches as well as with the WCC president of Asia Dr Sang Chang.
