The World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and their regional council, the Latin American Alliance of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches (AIPRAL) expressed today their pain and condemnation towards the violent repressions against the popular protests in many Colombian cities. Specially violent has been the police repression in the city of Cali this Monday. They call for the Colombian government to respect the international and human rights of the protesters.

We now share the AIPRAL declaration together with the  World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) signed by their secretaries: Rev. Dario Barolin and Rev. Dr. Chris Ferguson, respectively, on the events in Colombia, after the massive protests against the tax reform and the violent response of the police force.

From the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) and its regional council, the Latin American Alliance of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches (AIPRAL), we express our pain and condemnation towards the violent repressions against the popular protests in various Colombian cities. Specially violent has been the police repression in the city of Cali this Monday.

We call for the Colombian government to respect the international and human rights of the protesters. We urge and promote true and permanent stages of dialogue to solve the situations that are seen as urgent. Specifically, the withdrawal of the tax reform project, the bill 010 regarding healthcare, a national plan of massive vaccination, and a basic rent.

We call for our member churches and brother organizations to let the Colombian government know our condemnation of the violent repression and our call for an authentic dialogue in favour of thr Colombian people. Likewise, we request contact with the governments of their respective countries so this critical situation gets internalised.

We call to remain praying for this situation and specially for the families of the victims and to share the comfort that comes from God.

We maintain that the path which affirms itself in justice and peace is always the longest and most authentic.

… the effect of justice will be peace…

Isaías 32:17

…el fruto de justicia se siembra en paz…

Santiago 3:18
