Award to the Counsel of Churches and pastors Suarez and Marichal from the Cuban Government

A committee of the Cuban ecumenic movement and the Government met this past Friday 6th when the Cuban Counsel of Churches was given a special award in its 80th anniversary. In the event, there were talks about the common contributions to the nation. “Throughout these years and in Cuban history, the Counsel and its predecessors have actively participated in our society and motherland’s life,” said the Executive Secretary of the Counsel of Churches, reverend Joel Ortega Dopico.

As stated in a tweet  from the President, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, at the meeting, described as gloryfing, “we discussed faith and hope, we taked about how much we can keep doing together for the good of our country,” he said.

During the event, the attendees sang the well-known anthem “We Have Hope,” composed by the deceased Argentine methodist bishop Federico Padura, and a bible and a representation of the Christian cross were given to the government representatives in an intimate and reflexive momento.

Reverend Raúl Suárez Rodés was awarded the Orden Félix Varela de Segundo Grado by the President. The reverend is the leader of the Cuban ecumenic movement, founder of the Memorial Centre “Martin Luther King” and of the Cuban Church Fraternity.

Reverend Odén Marichal was also awarded this honour after he passed. He had been the founder of the Cuban MEC, congressman of the National Assembly and Professor at the Evangelic Seminare on Teology of Matanzas. They both were presidents of the Cuban Counsel of Churches.

Recognition of the President of the Republic, on the 80th Anniversary of the founding of the Council of Churches of Cuba (CIC)

The Cuban Counsel of Churches was given a special award in its 80th anniversary. Signed by the president of Cuba, such an honour was received by vicepresident of the Counsel, Lydia Aguiar Batista.

Reverend Ofelia Miriam Ortega, from the Cuban Reformed Presbiterian Church was in charge of a blessing prayer.

The Orden Félix Varela is a memorial prize of Cuba created by statute No. 30 10th December 1979 and is given to Cuban and foreing citizens and cultural communities acknowledging extraordinary contributions in favour of the eternal values of Cuban and international culture.
