Led by WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, the delegation will meet some member churches, ecumenical and interfaith partners, as well as representatives of United Nations agencies.
“As we move forward with the implementation of our new strategic plan, I hope that this visit offers us a more clear view of the potential that we have as WCC in the context of ecumenical and interfaith efforts in strategic circles such as New York City and Washington, D.C. to promote justice and peace”, said Pillay.
The group will visit the St Nicolas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine at the World Trade Center in New York City on 19 July. An ecumenical worship service organized by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA will be held in Washington, D.C on 20 July.
Pillay will be accompanied by Rev. Dr Angélique Walker-Smith, WCC president from North America, Rev. Dr Kenneth Mtata, WCC programme director for Public Witness and Diakonia, and Ryan Smith, WCC programme executive for the Ecumenical Office to the United Nations in New York.
